I had a great conversation with my colleague and friend Chaquita Renette who has similar views, but offers a great perspective on wellness as she has a background in psychology, is a mom, and entrepreneur.

Too often we forget to practice wellness in terms of who we are. As humans we are triune beings, made up of soul, mind, and body. Those are listed in their order of importance. There is a reason why Paul told Timothy that “exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things…” (I Tim. 4:8 NKJV). As a huge proponent of the importance of daily physical activity I understand that it is even more important to make sure our minds and souls are well. So why are those two parts of our being often neglected? Why do most fitness professionals only preach about the importance of the physical? On the other hand, why are some who are very spiritually and/or mentally well neglecting physical wellness? There are a lot of imbalanced people who are not experiencing the wonderful life that being well in soul, mind, and body yields.

So how do we fix this? How do we become holistically healthy and truly well? We must exercise our souls and our minds as vigorously and consistently as we exercise our bodies. Only then will we experience the true definition of wellness.
